General Instructions

  • Please only submit a full application to the Foundation if you have been invited to do so. For more information, please see instructions for submitting a Letter of Interest.
  • Deadlines: Note Schedule Change All materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1. If a deadline occurs on a non-business day, materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. the last business day prior to the deadline. Applicants will receive notification, and funded proposals a check, within 6-8 weeks.
  • Submit one hard copy of your application.
  • We appreciate a concise narrative, please limit your page count accordingly.
  • Please limit attachments to only those specific to your case. If we feel that we need additional information about your organization, we will request it.
  • Please staple your application and refrain from using other bindings, covers or folders.
  • Note: organizations applying for up to $2,500 do not need to complete a full application. Foundation staff will provide guidance on any additional information required when responding to your Letter of Interest.

Narrative:

1. Summary: Provide a short summary of your proposal (3-5 sentences).

2. Mission and History: Briefly describe your organization’s background. We are particularly interested in understanding your track record and expertise in the area for which you are requesting funds.

3. Philosophy: What is your organization's philosophy? In 2-3 sentences, tell us why you do the work you do.

4. Community Need: What community problem or situation will you be addressing? Help us understand the need in terms of scope and severity. What methods have you used to assess the need? What other efforts (by your organization or others) have been attempted or are currently underway to address the need? What effect have they had? How are you collaborating with other organizations working on this problem? Note: This section is not intended to describe the financial needs of your organization, rather the community need you will work to alleviate.

5. Project Description: Provide a detailed description of your project, activities and timeline.

6. Project Budget: Provide a detailed budget including all income and expenses. Your budget should cover the entire project even if you are requesting only a portion of the funding required from the Tarrant Foundation.

7. Anticipated Outcomes and Evaluation Plan: What will success look like at the conclusion of your project period? What change do you anticipate? How and when will you evaluate the success of your project? Be sure to include anticipated costs of evaluation in your project budget.

Attachments:

  • Cover Sheet: This yellow page was sent to you along with the letter inviting you to submit a full application. Please follow the instructions and attach to the front of your application.
  • Brief description of relevant qualifications of key project staff members (no resumes or CVs please)
  • List of current board members
  • Copy of your organization’s annual budget (if this project will be undertaken by a single department within a larger institution, it is acceptable to provide only a departmental budget).
  • If it is not available via the free web service guidestar.org, a copy or your organization's most recent IRS Form 990. As long as the document can be accessed via Guidestar, a copy does not need to be included.
  • Copy of your IRS determination letter or other proof of federal tax exempt status.
